Attractions, Activities & Landmarks by County

What Living There Could Look Like

Discover local attractions, historic landmarks, parks, and things to know about the communities you call — or may soon call — home.

How to read the locations

Each attraction includes its city or visitor-facing address location. Some county parks and venues sit outside municipal boundaries but use a nearby city’s mailing address — I identify those as an “area” or “mailing address” where relevant. A mailing city should not be used to determine a property’s jurisdiction.

Hours, prices, tours, and seasonal activities change. The official resources linked throughout the guide are the places to confirm those details.

01

Clayton County

South Metro

Clayton’s attractions include wetlands, wooded trails, classical music, African American history, and seasonal water recreation. Jonesboro and Morrow offer different starting points for exploring the county.

Nature, recreation, and entertainment

Reynolds Nature Preserve — Morrow

Explore wooded trails, ponds, and wildlife habitats. Interpretive signs add an educational element. This is a useful choice for birdwatching, photography, or a nature walk without committing to a mountain hike.

Newman Wetlands Center — Hampton mailing address, Clayton County

Located at 2755 Freeman Road, this Clayton County Water Authority facility explains wetlands conservation and watershed health. Explore its trail and educational resources. The Hampton address does not mean the attraction belongs in Henry County.

Spivey Hall — Morrow

Located on Clayton State University’s campus at 2000 Clayton State Boulevard. The intimate, 400-seat hall presents classical music and jazz. Plan around a specific performance rather than expecting a walk-in attraction.

Spivey Splash Water Park — Jonesboro area

Slides, a lazy river, pools, and a FlowRider make this a substantial summer outing. It is seasonal and is currently closed for the 2026 season.

Clayton County International Park — Jonesboro area

Explore the park separately from the water park. Its connections to the Clayton Connects trail system add walking and recreation options.

History and landmarks

Road to Tara Museum — Jonesboro

Located in the historic downtown railroad depot. Exhibits explore Gone With the Wind through film memorabilia, costumes, photographs, and literary material.

Hattie McDaniel Legacy Experience — Jonesboro

Located at the Road to Tara Museum. It adds a focused look at the actress’s life and legacy rather than treating the film’s history only through its fictional characters.

Stately Oaks Historic Community — Jonesboro

Explore an 1839 house and associated structures, including a log kitchen, schoolhouse, and country store. These buildings help explain historical household and community life. Stately Oaks is not the fictional Tara.

Jonesboro Rosenwald School Museum — Jonesboro

A preserved school building interpreting African American education during segregation. This adds an important educational stop to a historical visit.

A practical day

Start with Jonesboro’s museum and historical sites. Have lunch downtown. Plan Spivey Hall as a separate evening outing tied to its performance calendar.

What newcomers should investigate

Airport access, aircraft noise, and your actual commute from the home. If nature walks or concerts are part of your routine, check how conveniently the property connects to those destinations.

Official resources: See Clayton County

02

Cobb County

Northwest / West Metro

Cobb offers several distinct experiences: major entertainment around Cumberland, historical exploration in Marietta and Kennesaw, lake recreation around Acworth, and trails and arts in South Cobb.

Major destinations

Truist Park and The Battery Atlanta — Cumberland area, Atlanta mailing address

Attend a Braves game, dine, or explore the entertainment district. The Battery can be visited independently of a baseball game. Check event parking before arriving.

Marietta Square — Marietta

Explore independent shops, restaurants, museums, and community events around the square. It lends itself to an afternoon with several stops on foot.

Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park — Marietta/Kennesaw area

Combine Atlanta Campaign history with hiking. Choose a route based on your ability; a mountain climb is different from a short historical visit.

Historic downtown Acworth — Acworth

Explore restaurants and shops, then build a separate visit around nearby lake recreation. Downtown and the lake areas are complementary destinations.

Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre — Cumberland area, Atlanta mailing address

Attend ballet, opera, concerts, or theatrical performances. Check the specific production and parking arrangements.

Museums, gardens, trails, and arts

Southern Museum — Kennesaw

Home to the General locomotive, associated with the Great Locomotive Chase of 1862. Explore railroad history and Civil War interpretation.

Smith-Gilbert Gardens — Kennesaw

A 17-acre botanical garden combining plants, sculpture, conservation, and historic preservation. An alternative to a strenuous outdoor outing.

Marietta History Center — Marietta

Explore the community’s history and development. Pair it with a visit around the square.

William Root House Museum — Marietta

A historical house museum included in Marietta’s heritage attractions. Check tour availability before visiting.

Marietta-Cobb Museum of Art — Marietta

Explore art exhibitions near the downtown district.

Silver Comet Trail — Smyrna, Mableton, and Powder Springs corridor

Walk, cycle, or jog along the paved former railroad route. Cobb’s section begins in Smyrna and continues west. Choose a specific trailhead and distance before leaving home.

South Cobb

Mable House Arts Center — Mableton

Explore exhibitions, classes, and community arts programming.

Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre — Mableton

Attend scheduled outdoor performances. Check seating and event rules before bringing supplies.

Historic Mable House — Mableton

The 1843 house helps explain the family and local history behind Mableton’s name.

Seven Springs Museum — Powder Springs

Learn about the community and the geological feature that gave it its name.

Heritage Park — Mableton

Explore wooded trails along Nickajack Creek, historical ruins, and connections to the Silver Comet Trail.

A practical day

Choose one cluster. Marietta Square and its museums make one outing. Kennesaw’s museum and gardens make another. Trying to cover the entire county in one afternoon creates unnecessary driving.

What newcomers should investigate

Whether they want proximity to entertainment, a historic downtown, lake recreation, or trails. Visit homes near major venues during an event to understand the activity.

03

Outdoor recreation and smaller communities

Chattahoochee Bend State Park — western Coweta County, Newnan mailing address

Located at 425 Bobwhite Way. Explore river scenery, hiking, camping, and available lodging. This is a destination in its own right rather than a quick downtown stop.

Brown’s Mill Battlefield Historic Site — Newnan area

Located at 155 Millard Farmer Road. Walking routes, mountain biking trails, and interpretive signs explain the July 1864 battle through military history and personal accounts.

Historic downtown — Senoia

Explore Main Street businesses and the town’s film identity. Public streets and designated tours provide ways to visit filming locations respectfully.

Guided Walking Dead tours — Senoia

Learn how the town appeared on screen and how filming used local places. Book through an established tour operator.

Moreland Hometown Heritage Museum — Moreland

Located in the historic Moreland Mill. Explore memorabilia connected to writers Erskine Caldwell and Lewis Grizzard. This gives the county a literary stop beyond its better-known film attractions.

A practical day

Explore Newnan’s square and a museum. Save Senoia for shopping and film history. Combine Moreland with a separate trip through southern Coweta.

What newcomers should investigate

The difference between living near a town center and living on acreage. Confirm internet, water, septic or sewer, and travel distances at the property. Do not assume a farm or private garden welcomes unscheduled visitors.

DeKalb History Center — Decatur

Located in the historic courthouse at 101 East Court Square. Explore local history and research resources.

A practical day

Pair Arabia Mountain with a prearranged Flat Rock Archives visit. Use another day for Decatur’s history and dining.

What newcomers should investigate

Municipal boundaries and school assignments. A “Decatur” address may refer to a property outside the City of Decatur. Compare the actual distance to transit, restaurants, trails, and daily services.

Before You Choose

What People Should Know Before Choosing Where to Live

The attractions tell you what you can enjoy. These checks tell you whether a particular home supports your daily life.

Commute
What does the trip take during my actual work hours?
Jurisdiction
Is this property inside a city or in unincorporated county territory?
Schools
Which school district and attendance zone serve this exact address?
Healthcare
How far is the home from the providers and services I use?
Housing cost
What will taxes, insurance, utilities, HOA fees, and maintenance add to the payment?
Internet and utilities
Are the services I need available at this property?
Outdoor lifestyle
Can I conveniently reach the park, path, or lake I expect to use regularly?
Accessibility
Do the home and nearby destinations fit my mobility needs?
Restrictions
What do zoning, HOA rules, and historical-district requirements permit?
Local activity
What changes during evenings, weekends, games, festivals, or airport operations?

A useful way to explore: Pick two or three destinations near a home you are considering. Visit them, shop for groceries, and drive the commute. That gives you a clearer picture of everyday life than a county description alone.

Your Next Chapter Starts With the Right Location.

Whether you’re purchasing your first home, relocating to Metro Atlanta, upgrading, downsizing, investing, or building a custom home, I look forward to helping you explore the possibilities.
